Site enabling, highway, drainage and utility provision for Flamborough Glamping
Scope
To provide all works necessary to establish all site drainage and utility provision to each glamping pod base throughout this new development.
Further works included establishing access from the highway in compliance with Specification for Highway Works, profiling of land and drainage given the topography of the site.

Challenges
Health & Safety
All works were carried out compliantly under CDM 2015 protocols requiring Construction Phase Plans together with comprehensive assessment of all risks and method statements to minimise risks for all work elements.
Sweeting Bros Ltd have invested in mountain rescue sleds and equipment to facilitate patient evacuation in the event of an accident. Work is often in secluded, inaccessible areas with very poor ground conditions where ambulances or a helicopter may sink.
Ground Conditions
When excavating to any depth, it is imperative to understand the ground conditions and to ask for soil reports if available. Typically in domestic situations this is unlikely. In commercial applications, soil reports can be available to assist; however, it is necessary to be prepared for issues such as running sand or a high water table which can lead to instability. In this instance trench boxes were utilised to ensure safe excavation work.
Biosecurity
Moving machinery from one property to another often requires biosecurity and environmental protocols to minimise transfer of contaminants or invasive species such as black grass.
Working with Water
Working in or around water poses hazards for employees arising from the natural environment. The presence of vermin and exposure to leptospirosis, together with the possibility of drowning, add to the normal risks involving accidents concerning machinery and moving parts. Works taking place in live watercourses also pose problems arising from adverse weather and increased rainfall. Programmes were monitored and adjusted to accommodate and minimise risks. Pumping out of accumulating or rising groundwater is often necessary to ensure safe working conditions.
Cooperation
As with any medium-to-large project where multiple stakeholders are involved, co-operation is a key factor in success. Sweeting Bros Ltd are adept at managing multi-agency stakeholders including where licencing may be a requirement.
